I’ve been pouring over this issue of Flamingo and there are so many great stories, including the feature I wrote about Panama City’s transformation since Hurricane Michael. We have the best Songwriters Festival, a brand new film festival, pedal bike tours, farmers markets, lots of art, and the coolest brewery around, History Class! Come visit :) #visitflorida #panamacity #smalltowncharm #travel #travelwriter
This is a story I've wanted to tell for a long time. Those who lived through Hurricane Michael know the long and difficult road it has been to recovery. After my breast cancer diagnosis, I took walks in Downtown Panama City following my treatments, five days per week. For months I watched as rubble transformed into breweries, shops, restaurants, and new life. I felt a connection to the layers of destruction peeling away and revealing the next chapter in my hometown.
Print still hits! People who know me understand my deep and abiding love of sustainable seafood, and especially farm-raised oysters. Moments like this where I get to tell a friend’s story, shed light on an important ecological endeavor, and see it brought to life visually remind me I’m so blessed that this is my job. Thanks to @diana.duval.lane for tasking me with this piece and deep gratitude goes to Cainnon, the man out there flipping cages, tumbling, and tending to those Salty Birds 🦪❤️If you’re on 30A, stop by and grab the Alys Beach Gazette to read Cainnon’s story or hit the link in my Oyster Stories in my profile. #oysters #alysbeach #30awinefestival #sustainableseafood #oystersouth #foodandtravelwriter #floridaoysters
